Speakers at a just concluded two-day capacity-building workshop have called on women across Taraba State to align their efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by leveraging local platforms to bring about sustainable change in their communities.
The event, organized by Taraba Girls Making Impact (TAGMI), heralded the presence of women from across the state was said to have been geared towards equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to become agents of social transformation.
Facilitators at the workshop which took place in Jalingo, emphasized the importance of equity, inclusive access to resources, and women’s active participation in leadership and development processes.
Participants were encouraged to claim their rightful place in society by asserting their rights and challenging systemic barriers through collective action.
In her opening remarks, Aishatu Hammanjoda Usman, Executive Director and Project Lead of TAGMI, urged participants to embrace their roles as change-makers.
“This training was designed to create a ripple effect empowered women empowering others,” Usman stated. “We believe that with the right tools and support, women in Taraba can and will transform their communities.”
A key highlight of the event was a session on the power of storytelling, where speakers discussed how women can use their personal narratives to advocate for change and influence policy.
The importance of finding and using one’s voice in leadership, advocacy, and civic engagement was as well underscored throughout the training.
Participants also explored various leadership styles, with facilitators challenging them to break through societal stereotypes and push for greater female representation in governance and decision-making spaces.
“This workshop has opened our eyes to the roles we can play, not just in our homes but in our communities and beyond,” one participant said.
The workshop concluded with a call to action for participants to implement “step-down” projects in their communities a practical way to apply the knowledge gained and extend the impact of the training across the state.
