Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Monday night  delivered a commanding performance, thumping Mozambique 4‑0 in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations to book their place in the quarter‑finals and keep their title defence hopes alive.

The emphatic victory at the Complexe Sportif de Fès saw Nigeria take control early and never look back, with goals coming from Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen (twice) and Akor Adams.

Lookman breaks the deadlock with a sharp finish after a smart assist from Akor Adams, setting the tone for Nigeria’s dominance.Osimhen doubles the lead, pouncing on a loose ball to fire past the Mozambique keeper.

Osimhen makes it 3–0 early in the second half, converting from close range and putting the result beyond doubt. Adams adds gloss to the scoreline, tapping in Nigeria’s fourth following another assist from Lookman.

The comprehensive win showcased a clinical Nigeria side effective in front of goal and defensively disciplined, earning a clean sheet while asserting control in both halves.

With this victory, the Super Eagles progress to the quarter‑finals of AFCON for another shot at continental glory, keeping alive hopes of lifting the trophy for the fourth time in their history.

The result also underlines Nigeria’s strong knockout credentials after topping their group with an unbeaten record.

Fans and pundits alike had expected the Super Eagles to dominate, especially after strong build‑up and tactical confidence from coach Eric Chelle, who insisted the team approach the knockout tie with attacking intent.

Nigeria will now await their quarter‑final opponent as the AFCON tournament  hosted in Morocco moves deeper into the knockout stages. The Super Eagles will look to maintain their momentum and tighten their grip on Africa’s premier football competition.
