The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State has recorded what party stakeholders describe as a major political breakthrough following the return of prominent political figure, Mairogo Pa’abu Jonathan, to the party.
The development, which has generated reactions across political circles in the state, is being viewed as a strategic move capable of reshaping internal party dynamics ahead of future political engagements.
Mairogo officially announced his return to the APC while declaring support for the “Moving Forward” agenda of Governor Agbu Kefas, whose administration he praised for prioritising unity, development, youth empowerment and inclusive governance.
Speaking on his decision to realign politically, Mairogo said his confidence in Governor Kefas’ leadership style and developmental policies influenced his return to the party. According to him, Taraba State requires collective political cooperation and commitment from stakeholders to sustain progress and strengthen governance.
He described the current administration’s policy direction as one focused on improving citizens’ welfare while promoting peace and inclusiveness across communities in the state.
Political observers say the move may signal a fresh phase of reconciliation and political cooperation among key actors in Taraba politics, particularly within the APC structure.
Within party ranks, Mairogo’s return has been widely celebrated as a morale booster expected to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and expand youth participation in the party.
Reacting to the development, the APC Youth Leader in Taraba State, Prince Adikinda Shekarau Masaibi, described Mairogo as a respected stakeholder with deep political influence and strong community connections.
According to Masaibi, the political stalwart’s return would significantly reinforce the party’s grassroots structure and contribute to ongoing efforts aimed at fostering unity within the APC.
“Pa’abu Mairogo is an asset we cannot afford to lose. His return to the APC is a welcome development not only for the party but also for the youths and the future of our political structure in Taraba State,” Masaibi said.
He further stressed the importance of reconciliation and inclusiveness within the party, noting that the APC leadership in the state remains committed to building a stronger and more united platform ahead of future political activities.
Stakeholders and political analysts have also described the development as a positive sign for internal cohesion within the APC in Taraba State. Many believe the return of influential figures such as Mairogo could help reduce factional tensions and encourage broader collaboration among party members.
Adding another dimension to the political development is Mairogo’s reported family relationship with Governor Kefas, as he is said to be the younger brother of the governor’s wife.
Observers argue that the relationship may further strengthen political understanding among critical stakeholders and contribute to a more stable political environment in the state.
For many within the APC, Mairogo’s return is more than a symbolic homecoming; it is being interpreted as part of a broader effort to reposition the party, consolidate support at the grassroots level and build momentum for future political contests in Taraba State.
