The historic town of Ganye, in Adamawa state was filled with pomp and celebration on Saturday as prominent dignitaries from across Nigeria gathered to mark the 25th anniversary of Alhaji Dr. Umaru Adamu Sanda’s reign as the Gangwari Ganye.
The milestone event commemorated a quarter-century since the monarch’s ascension to the throne on April 7, 2000, following his unanimous selection by traditional kingmakers and subsequent endorsement by the government. He was elevated to first-class status on December 4, 2004.
Speaking at the occasion, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri hailed the monarch for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to peace, cultural preservation, and community development.
“Your reign has been a beacon of stability and progress. You have been a father to all and a bridge-builder among diverse communities,” Governor Fintiri said, highlighting gains made in education, agriculture, traditional governance, and social cohesion under the monarch’s stewardship.
He praised the Gangwari’s active collaboration with the state government in areas such as conflict resolution, youth empowerment, and cultural promotion, describing their relationship as one built on mutual respect and a shared dedication to public service.
Governor Fintiri called on the younger generation to emulate the monarch’s values of integrity, humility, and dedication, encouraging the silver jubilee to serve as a rallying point for unity and collective development.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to Ganye’s growth, the governor referenced the recent upgrade of the College of Agriculture, Ganye, into the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology. He said the transformation signified an expanded vision aimed at driving innovation and increasing productivity across the region.
“The government will continue to harness the vast agricultural and mineral resources of Ganye to uplift the livelihoods of our people and boost the state’s economy,” Fintiri assured.
In his response, the Gangwari Ganye expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who attended and supported the silver jubilee, pledging to continue championing peace and harmony within the Chiefdom.
Chairman of the Central Organising Committee, Hon. Mohammed Inuwa Bassi, lauded the monarch’s tenure, describing it as a period of unparalleled unity, development, and cultural revival.
The event was highlighted by the conferment of the prestigious traditional title Gang Paan Ganye on retired General TY Danjuma, who served as chairman of the occasion. Attendees were also treated to vibrant cultural performances and a colourful durbar, reflecting the rich heritage of the Ganye Chiefdom.
