Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt and rescued six victims unhurt in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
According to a statement issued Tuesday night in Jalingo by the Acting Spokesperson of the Brigade, Captain Oni Olubodunde, the operation was carried out by soldiers deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wukari.
The troops were said to have responded swiftly to a distress call from the Executive Chairman of Wukari LGA reporting an attack on travelers along the Wukari-Kente road.
Upon arrival at the scene on April 27, troops found an abandoned white Toyota Hilux with a flat tire. Moments later, six individuals emerged from the nearby bush, unharmed, and identified themselves as the vehicle’s occupants.
They explained they were traveling from Yola to Lafia when suspected kidnappers or armed robbers attacked from behind, forcing them to flee into the bush for safety.
After securing the area, the soldiers helped fix the vehicle’s tire and ensured the travelers continued safely on their journey.
Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, commended the troops for their rapid response and vigilance.
He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across Taraba State, urging the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
“This operation is a clear demonstration of our troops’ dedication to protecting lives and property throughout the state,” Uwa said.
