President Salva Kiir Mayardit, of South Sudan, has called for an immediate end to ongoing inter-communal violence in Warrap State and the Abyei Administrative Area, emphasizing the need for peace and stability in the region.
Speaking in Juba during the swearing-in ceremony of the new Governor of Warrap State, Gen. Magok Magok Deng, and the Chief Administrator of Abyei, Charles Abyei Jok, President Kiir urged local leaders to work towards fostering harmony among communities.
He also cautioned community leaders residing in Juba against inciting violence in their home areas.
The President encouraged the newly appointed officials to prioritize the rule of law and peaceful coexistence, stressing that cooperation between state authorities and local communities is crucial in resolving persistent conflicts.
Meanwhile, Chief of Defense Forces, Gen Paul Nang Majok, had described the ongoing violence in Warrap as a major security challenge for the military.
He warned that the army is prepared to intervene by disarming armed youth groups responsible for the unrest, a measure aimed at restoring order in the region.
In their remarks, Governor Magok Magok and Administrator Charles Abyei, pledged their commitment to engaging local leaders and residents in efforts to restore lasting peace and security in their respective jurisdictions.
The appeal from the Head of State, as noticed by WorldClass247News, comes amid heightened concerns over inter-communal clashes that have disrupted lives and livelihoods in Warrap and Abyei.
