Spain booked their place in the FIFA World Cup final with an impressive 2–0 victory over France in the first semifinal played on Tuesday.
Spain took control of the match in the 22nd minute when Mikel Oyarzabal calmly converted a penalty after France defender Lucas Digne fouled young star Lamine Yamal inside the penalty area. The goal gave Spain a deserved 1–0 lead at halftime.
The Spanish side continued to dominate possession in the second half and doubled their advantage in the 58th minute. Pedro Porro finished off a well-worked team move, assisted by Dani Olmo, leaving the French defence with little chance to recover.
Despite several attacking changes, France struggled to break through Spain’s disciplined defence. Star forward Kylian Mbappé was unable to inspire a comeback as Spain maintained control until the final whistle.
The victory sends Spain into the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, where they will face the winner of the second semifinal between England and Argentina. France will now compete in the third-place playoff.
Spain’s composed display highlighted their tactical discipline, defensive strength and attacking efficiency, earning them a deserved place in the tournament’s biggest match.
