The Adamawa State Government has approved projects and programmes valued at more than N78 billion, including a N77 billion contractors’ financing scheme, as part of measures to accelerate development and improve the delivery of public projects across the state.
The approvals were made at the 14th meeting of the Adamawa State Executive Council in 2026, presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Council Chamber of the Government House, Yola.
The decisions cut across education, traditional institutions and infrastructure financing, with the government seeking to address gaps in public services while ensuring that ongoing projects are not stalled by funding constraints.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Barrister Leader Leneke, said the council approved N99.27 million for the supply of instructional materials to secondary schools across the state.
He explained that the approval, presented by the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, was intended to strengthen the availability of essential teaching and learning materials in schools.
According to him, the intervention is expected to support teachers and students and contribute to improved learning conditions across Adamawa’s secondary schools.
N1.34bn Approved for Emir’s Residence
In another major decision, the council approved N1.34 billion for the purchase of an existing residential building in Fufore to serve as the official residence of the Emir of Fufore Chiefdom.
Leneke said the decision formed part of the state government’s broader effort to provide befitting official residences for traditional rulers across the state.
He noted that similar approvals had previously been made for other chiefdoms and emirates, underscoring the administration’s recognition of the role of traditional institutions in governance and community development.
N77bn Contractors’ Financing Scheme
The largest financial approval was the N77 billion Zenith Bank Contractors Financing Scheme for Adamawa State, which has a one-year tenure.
Leneke said the scheme, presented by the Ministry of Finance, was designed to ensure that contractors handling government projects have access to funds needed to sustain construction activities and meet contractual obligations.
He said the initiative would help minimise delays in project execution arising from funding challenges and facilitate timely completion of government projects across the state.
The Commissioner also reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to meeting its financial obligations to contractors.
He stressed that the government does not deliberately delay payments for completed or ongoing projects, adding that ensuring contractors have the resources to continue their work remains important to the state’s development agenda.
Beyond financial and development issues, the Executive Council also expressed concern over recent security incidents and killings recorded in parts of Adamawa State, including the latest incident in Gombi local government council.
Leneke said the government was taking necessary measures to protect lives and property and strengthen security across affected communities.
He, however, urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities to security agencies.
The Commissioner called for stronger cooperation between communities and security personnel, stressing that effective security cannot be achieved through government efforts alone.
He maintained that collective vigilance, timely information sharing and cooperation with security agencies remain essential to preventing attacks and protecting lives and property.
The latest approvals therefore place significant emphasis on two parallel priorities of the Adamawa administration — accelerating development through funding and infrastructure support while strengthening efforts to safeguard residents amid emerging security challenges.
The N77 billion financing arrangement, in particular, represents the largest component of the council’s latest approvals and is expected to provide contractors with the financial backing required to sustain and complete government projects across the state.
