The Oyo State Police Command has issued a security alert ahead of the July 7 Founders’ Day celebration of the Neo-Black Movement of Africa, also known as the Black Axe cult, warning of potential violence linked to rival cult clashes.
In a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Osifeso Adewale, the police said intelligence reports indicate that rival gangs may attempt reprisals or violent attacks during the event, posing risks of widespread disorder.
As part of preventive measures, the command has held sensitization meetings with hoteliers, lounge owners, and operators of studio apartments, urging them not to allow their facilities to be used for cult gatherings or related activities.
“The safety of all residents remains our highest priority,” Adewale stated, calling on parents, guardians, community leaders, and influential figures to join efforts in discouraging cultism and ensuring the safety of young people.
Police also urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, while assuring residents that security personnel would be deployed across strategic locations in the state to maintain order.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to peace and security, promising to leverage intelligence and technology to keep Oyo State safe.
