Nigeria and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering defence cooperation with the renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Nigerian Ministry of Defence and the German Technical Advisory Group (GTAG).
The agreement, which has been in place for 12 years and is renewed every four years, was officially signed at a ceremony held at Ship House, Abuja. The renewed MoU aims to enhance collaboration in defence strategy, security, and capacity-building initiatives.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Ambassador Gabriel Tanimu Aduda, described the MoU as a crucial framework for fostering long-term security cooperation. He emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to ensuring the agreement’s effective implementation through strict accountability measures, adherence to timelines, and rigorous monitoring.
“All procurement aspects of the agreement will undergo thorough evaluation to guarantee value for money,” Aduda stated, highlighting Nigeria’s focus on transparency and efficiency in executing the partnership.
German Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Colonel Boris Bovekemp, also reaffirmed Germany’s dedication to strengthening military cooperation. He praised the enduring partnership between the two nations and underscored the importance of adapting defence strategies to address evolving security challenges.
The renewed MoU marks another milestone in Nigeria-Germany relations, reinforcing their shared objectives of security enhancement, technical cooperation, and capacity development in the defence sector.
