An Islamic leader, Muhammad Gazail, has rejected recent calls for the removal of the the Special Adviser to the Taraba state governor on Muslim Affairs, Alhaji Hussaini Ismaila.
Describing the demands as unfounded and politically driven. Gazail, during a press conference on Tuesday in Jalingo, dismissed the allegations raised by a group advocating for Ismaila’s removal.
He revealed that the group’s spokesperson is a known political figure a returning officer for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and a lecturer at Taraba State University alleging that their actions were rooted more in politics than in genuine concerns from the Muslim community.
Representing various Muslim organizations at the briefing, Gazail acknowledged the group’s constitutional right to voice out their opinions but stressed that the petition does not reflect the views of the wider Muslim population in the state.
He described the campaign as “misleading and politically motivated,” asserting that Ismaila’s work in fostering unity among Muslim clerics is well recognized.
“Since assuming office, Ismaila has ensured inclusive representation for Muslims in government and has maintained strong ties between the Muslim community and the administration of governor Agbu Kefas,” Gazail stated.
He added that the Special Adviser has played a critical role in preventing disunity and promoting peaceful collaboration among Islamic scholars.
Gazail also commended Ismaila for his effective coordination of religious activities, particularly during celebrations like Sallah, where he ensured equitable distribution of government-provided financial and material support to Muslim clerics.
Calling for unity, Gazail urged those pushing for Ismaila’s removal to use proper channels for redress rather than stirring division.
He lauded the adviser’s efforts in promoting interfaith harmony, noting that his initiatives have significantly contributed to peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims in Taraba State.
