Chijioke Ihunwo has condemned the ongoing move by the Rivers State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, describing the situation as a deliberate attempt to destabilize governance in the state.
Speaking during an interview on TVC News, Ihunwo alleged that the crisis is being driven by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), whom he accused of using 26 lawmakers to frustrate the administration of Governor Fubara.
According to him, the impeachment plot goes beyond normal political disagreement and is aimed at preventing the governor from effectively carrying out his constitutional duties.
Ihunwo said the lawmakers involved have allegedly been instructed to disrupt governance and create instability, describing the situation as an organized effort to weaken leadership and disorganize the state.
He further claimed that several members of the House of Assembly are uncomfortable with the developments but feel compelled to act under pressure.
He urged the legislators to cooperate with Governor Fubara in the interest of peace, stability, and development in Rivers State. Ihunwo also warned that political actions have lasting consequences, stressing that decisions made today could have serious repercussions in the future.
Addressing reported threats arising from the political tension, Ihunwo spoke emotionally about the risks to life associated with the crisis. He said he was not afraid of death, noting that mortality is inevitable.
“They are threatening, they will do this, they will do that. Everybody must die, including me. If I die today, you who killed me will also die tomorrow,” Ihunwo said.
