Governor Dauda Lawal, of Zamfara state, has approved the recruitment of 2,000 teachers across the state.
The announcement was made during an Executive Council meeting held on Monday at the Government House in Gusau, the state capital.
The governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, stated that the recruitment aligns with promises made during Governor Lawal’s campaign and demonstrates his administration’s commitment to revamping the state’s education system.
“Education is the second priority of Governor Lawal’s administration, and significant progress has already been achieved,” Idris noted.
He also highlighted key milestones in the governor’s education reform agenda, which he said, includes the declaration of a state of emergency in the education sector on November 14, 2023, the construction and renovation of over 400 schools across the state’s 14 local government areas, the provision of 12,000 two-seater desks for students, and the supply of 700 tables and 1,000 chairs for teachers.
Speaking at the council meeting, Governor Lawal emphasized the phased approach to teacher recruitment to ensure transparency and the selection of qualified candidates.
“In 2025, we will recruit 2,000 qualified teachers to address critical areas of need in our schools,” the governor said.
Adding that,“this process will begin with 500 teachers in the first quarter and will focus on employing skilled professionals to strengthen the education sector.”
The initiative, as WorldClass247News , gathered, is part of the state’s AGILE Programme, aimed at reversing the decline in education standards and enhancing teaching quality across Zamfara.
