Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has commended the Department of State Services (DSS) for the successful rescue of two Catholic priests who were kidnapped in Numan, describing the operation as a clear reflection of the state’s tough stance against criminal elements.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, the Governor praised the professionalism and swift action of the DSS, which led to the safe recovery of Rev. Fathers Matthew David Dusami and Abraham Samman. The priests were rescued without any ransom being paid.
The clergymen were abducted in February 2025 from their residence at a convent in Gweda Mallam, located in Numan Local Government Area.
The DSS operation also resulted in the arrest of the prime suspect, Tahamado Jonathan Damien, who is reportedly a member of the church.
Governor Fintiri extended his appreciation to the Director General of the DSS and the Adamawa State Command for their dedication and effectiveness, assuring residents that his administration remains committed to ensuring the security of lives and property.
“We will not spare anybody found wanting, no matter who you are,” the Governor said, reiterating his government’s zero-tolerance approach to crime.
He further stressed the importance of intelligence sharing and collaboration among security agencies, noting that coordinated efforts between the DSS, police, armed forces, and other stakeholders are essential to maintaining peace and creating an environment favorable for investment and development.
Governor Fintiri affirmed that peace and security are central to Adamawa’s growth and pledged continued support for all security operations in the state
