Gombe State has reiterated its full commitment to participating in the upcoming National Sports Festival set to take place in Ogun State, as the symbolic Unity Torch arrived in the state on Thursday.
During a vibrant reception ceremony in Gombe, Deputy Governor Manassah Daniel Jatau received the Unity Torch on behalf of the state, affirming Gombe’s readiness to be actively involved in the national sporting event.
Jatau praised the state’s growing strides in sports, referencing the commendable performance of a Gombe athlete at the previous edition of the festival in Asaba.
“This year, we are prepared to present an even stronger contingent,” he stated, emphasizing Gombe’s dedication to promoting national unity and youth empowerment through sports.
He described the festival as a crucial platform for fostering peace, national cohesion, and unearthing athletic talent across Nigeria.
The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development also addressed the gathering, expressing confidence in the state’s preparations and revealing that Gombe would participate in all 24 scheduled sporting events. He lauded the commitment of the athletes and assured them of continued government support.
Leader of the Unity Torch delegation from the Federal Ministry of Sports, Mr. Mbora Ikana, highlighted the torch’s symbolic role in promoting peace and unity. He urged all states to leverage the festival to boost youth engagement and foster national integration.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries and top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi; Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Ahmed Abdullahi Kasimu; commissioners, permanent secretaries, and representatives of the State Commissioner of Police and the Federal Road Safety Corps.
