The Federal Government has announced the release of admissions into 80 Federal Unity Colleges across the country, unveiling a fully automated placement system aimed at enhancing transparency, efficiency, and capacity management in the nation’s secondary school education system.
The announcement was made in a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, who noted that the new process eliminates the longstanding issues of overcrowding and over-enrolment by ensuring all placements are strictly within the approved capacity of each school.
According to the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the reform represents a significant stride toward equity and quality in education. “This initiative guarantees fairness, operational efficiency, and sustained academic standards across our Unity Colleges,” he said.
The automated admission exercise covers only the 80 conventional Federal Unity Colleges at the Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS1) level. Admission into the remaining 42 Federal Technical Colleges, which operate under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, will be released subsequently.
Hajia Binta Abdulkadri, Director of Senior Secondary Education, described the automation as a “game-changer,” noting that the system aligns enrolment with each school’s capacity to create a more conducive learning environment for students.
The ministry urged parents, guardians, and prospective students to check admission results via the Ministry’s official website and reaffirmed its commitment to delivering quality education in safe, well-managed learning environments.
This reform is part of broader efforts to ensure accountability, uphold high educational standards, and support national development through a more efficient and equitable education system.
