The Adamawa State Commissioner for Works, Mohammed Suleiman, has cautioned motorists against reckless driving and urged strict adherence to traffic regulations, especially on flyovers in Yola, the state capital.
Speaking with journalists at his office on Wednesday, Suleiman raised concerns over rising violations of traffic rules and the vandalism of recently installed road infrastructure. He noted that barriers, road signs, and protective wire mesh have been repeatedly damaged, undermining road safety.
The commissioner explained that while the flyovers are engineered to carry heavy traffic, overloaded vehicles often develop mechanical faults while ascending. Such breakdowns, he said, can trigger dangerous rollbacks that pose serious risks to other road users.
He also revealed that heavy-duty trucks occasionally stall at the peak of the flyovers, creating hazards and potentially affecting the structural integrity of the bridges over time.
Suleiman called on residents to take collective responsibility for protecting public infrastructure, urging them to remain vigilant and report any incidents of vandalism. He warned that anyone found damaging or misusing public property would face prosecution under the law.
This statement comes amid increasing concerns about road safety and infrastructure protection in Adamawa State.
