The Delta State Government has suspended five primary school head teachers for allegedly extorting pupils by imposing unauthorized levies.
The suspension, announced on Friday, January 31, was confirmed in a statement by the State Ministry of Information, signed by Permanent Secretary Theresa Adiabua-Oliko.
The action follows an investigation and on-site visits by the Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, which revealed that the head teachers had illegally charged pupils fees for the 2025 Cognitive and Placement Examination.
The affected schools, as stated in the release, are, Asamala Primary School, Ugiliamai (Ndokwa West LGA), Abraka Model Primary School (Ethiope East LGA),Ekrejeta Primary School, Abraka (Ethiope East LGA), and Origin Primary School, Orogun (Ughelli North LGA)
The State Universal Basic Education Board has been directed to take further disciplinary action against those involved.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy on corruption in the education sector, the government vowed to continue enforcing strict measures to protect pupils and ensure a fair learning environment.
