Governors of the South-South geopolitical zone, have unanimously resolved to establish a regional security network to enhance safety across the six states of the region.
The decision was reached during a meeting of the South-South Governors’ Forum at Government House, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
In a communique issued after the meeting, the governors also called on the Federal Government to fast-track the completion of the East-West Road, a vital infrastructure linking the region’s states.
They emphasized that the road’s completion would boost economic activities and improve connectivity across the Niger Delta.
The forum also expressed conditional support for President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bill, urging that the proposed Value Added Tax (VAT) sharing formula be expanded to include other derivation areas, particularly oil and gas.
The South-South Governors’ Forum, comprising the leaders of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, and Rivers states, reiterated their commitment to unity and collaboration in tackling the region’s security and economic challenges.
