Benue state governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the growth and development of the University of Agriculture, Science and Technology (UAST), Ihugh, while urging private organisations and development partners to support the institution in achieving its vision.
Governor Alia made the appeal during the university’s maiden matriculation ceremony where 668 pioneer students were formally admitted into various academic programmes.
Addressing the students in his capacity as Visitor to the University, governor Alia challenged them to embrace discipline, pursue academic excellence, and demonstrate innovation in their studies. He reminded the pioneer students that they bear the responsibility of laying a strong foundation and setting standards for future generations.
The governor assured the institution of the continued support of his administration and emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts among stakeholders to transform UAST Ihugh into a leading centre for agricultural development, scientific research, technology, and innovation.
He also called on development partners, private organisations, and other stakeholders to partner with the university in advancing its academic and infrastructural development.
Earlier in his address, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Qrisstuberg Amua, described the matriculation ceremony as a historic occasion that signals the beginning of a new era for the institution.
Professor Amua encouraged the newly admitted students to distinguish themselves through hard work, discipline, and exemplary character, stressing that their conduct and academic performance would help shape the image and reputation of the university.
The Vice Chancellor commended the Benue State Government for its visionary investment in higher education, noting that the establishment of UAST Ihugh would create more opportunities for quality education, research, innovation, and human capital development in the state.
Some of the matriculating students expressed excitement and optimism at being among the university’s pioneer undergraduates. They pledged to contribute positively to the institution’s growth and uphold its values through academic excellence and good conduct.
