President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed concern over the tragic boat accident that occurred on Tuesday in Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State, resulting in the loss of several lives.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended his condolences to the government and people of Kogi State, as well as the families of the victims.
The deceased were reportedly traders en route to Ilushi market in neighboring Edo State when the mishap occurred.
Describing the incident as “shocking and unfortunate,” President Tinubu lamented the loss of lives among individuals who were engaged in honest efforts to earn a living.
He commended the efforts of first responders at the scene and called on emergency services at the federal, state, and local levels to intensify their response to support survivors and affected families.
The President also reiterated the need for water transport operators to prioritize safety over profit, emphasizing that lives must never be compromised in the course of business operations.
