The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has extended vital humanitarian assistance to victims of recent floods in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State, delivering food and non-food items to residents of Shagari, Sabon Pegi, and Anguwan Tabo communities.
The intervention is said to be part of the Commission’s broader effort to address the aftermath of devastating floods that displaced scores of families and disrupted livelihoods across the region.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, NEDC State Coordinator, Barrister Khalifa M. Lawan, who represented the Commission’s Managing Director/CEO, Mohammed G. Alkali, conveyed the NEDC’s sympathies and reiterated its commitment to both immediate relief and long-term recovery.
“We understand the challenges you face, and we are here to bring more support to your doorstep,” Lawan said, assuring continued intervention in the flood-ravaged areas.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Adamawa State Government, the Director of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), Mrs. Lawuri, commended the NEDC for its swift and impactful response.
Relief items distributed included cartons of Indomie noodles, spaghetti, and critical non-food items such as mats, mosquito nets, and blankets supplies deemed essential for displaced families.
Grateful beneficiaries lauded the gesture, describing it as timely and life-saving. “This support means so much to us. It gives us hope and shows that we are not alone in this difficult time,” said one community member.
The NEDC reaffirmed its resolve to continue supporting affected communities and driving long-term rehabilitation efforts across the North East.
