The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has launched a renewed enforcement drive targeting vehicles with tinted glasses and concealed number plates on its campus, citing escalating security concerns.
The directive, released by the university’s Security Division, follows the 137th meeting of the Top Management Committee, where officials expressed frustration over repeated violations of the existing ban on such vehicles.
In an internal memorandum, the Chief Security Officer, Major Abiya Mohammed (Rtd.), issued a one-week grace period for vehicle owners to remove tinted glass and ensure that number plates are fully visible.
“Compliance within the grace period is crucial,” the notice stated.
After the deadline, the university’s Tinted Glasses Enforcement Team has been authorized to take action, including the removal of tinted materials from offending vehicles found within the campus.
UNIMAID officials emphasized that the crackdown is part of broader measures to strengthen safety and maintain order across the campus. Students, staff, and visitors have been urged to cooperate fully with security personnel to support the initiative.
The move underscores the university’s ongoing commitment to protecting its community and ensuring a secure learning environment.
