Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday inaugurated the 6th Expanded National Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Clinic and a newly established Fashion Hub in Maiduguri, announcing an unconditional grant of N300,000 for each participating entrepreneur.
Speaking at the event held at the Borno State Government House, Shettima emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to empowering small businesses and fostering economic growth.
“I am pleased to announce, on behalf of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that an unconditional grant of N300,000 will be awarded to each outstanding MSME exhibiting at today’s clinic.
This reflects our administration’s dedication to ensuring the sustainability and success of small businesses,” the Vice President stated.
The event also marked the inauguration of the Borno State Fashion Hub, a landmark initiative designed to boost the fashion industry and create up to 48,000 jobs annually. Equipped with cutting-edge facilities, the hub aims to enhance the growth of MSMEs in the region.
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State praised the initiative, highlighting the critical role of MSMEs in rebuilding the state’s economy amid challenges posed by prolonged insurgency.
“The MSME Clinic will revitalise business activities in Borno State, create employment opportunities, and expand income sources for our people,” Zulum said.
The governor outlined his administration’s efforts to support entrepreneurs through soft loans, modern market infrastructure, vocational training institutions, and the renovation of skill acquisition centers damaged by insurgency.
He stressed that the clinic would address key areas such as funding, skill development, infrastructure, market access, and technology.
“This initiative is a testament to our belief in the creativity and resilience of the entrepreneurs in Borno State and Nigeria,” Zulum added. “When MSMEs thrive, they create jobs, reduce poverty, and drive innovation.”
The Vice President also commissioned the Borno State Fashion Hub, located at the former Kashim Ibrahim College of Education, alongside a new WEMA Bank branch.
The MSME Clinic and Fashion Hub are expected to stimulate economic activity and empower local entrepreneurs, setting the stage for sustainable development in the region.
