The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has charged its personnel to maintain neutrality, discipline and professionalism in the discharge of their duties during the 2027 general elections.
The Commandant-General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, gave the charge while declaring open a three-day workshop for 216 officers and men drawn from the 36 state commands, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and 18 zonal commands.
Audi warned personnel against voter intimidation, abuse of citizens, abandonment of duty posts and obedience to unlawful orders, stressing that the national interest must remain paramount in their conduct.
He said security personnel must uphold democratic principles and protect citizens’ rights throughout the electoral process as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The workshop, organised in collaboration with Alnas Consulting Limited, is themed, “Role of Security Agencies in the Conduct of the General Elections in Nigeria: Legal, Field Conduct, Supervisory and Operational Perspectives.”
In his welcome address, the Chief Responsibility Officer of Alnas Consulting Limited, Prof. Nasirdeen Usman, described the NSCDC as a critical component of Nigeria’s security architecture.
Usman urged participants to share the knowledge acquired during the workshop with other personnel to strengthen their capacity and ensure effective performance during the elections.
The NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful elections, effective collaboration among security agencies and the protection of Nigerians’ democratic rights as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
