The Emir of Gombe, Gombe State, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, has been appointed as the pioneer Chancellor of Greenland University, Jalingo, Taraba State.
The appointment, which takes effect from Aug. 1, 2026, was announced by the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the university, Sen. Sani Abubakar Danladi, on weekend.
Danladi, in a statement on Friday, said the appointment was in recognition of the emir’s leadership qualities, wealth of experience, global connections and contributions to society.
He said the traditional ruler’s passion for education and his contributions to the development of Gombe State, Northern Nigeria and the country at large also informed the decision.
According to him, the appointment is expected to provide strong leadership and direction as the institution works towards achieving its vision of becoming a world-class university.
The founder congratulated the Emir of Gombe on his appointment and expressed confidence that his experience and leadership would contribute significantly to the growth and development of the university.
He wished the new chancellor a successful tenure and a lasting impact in transforming Greenland University, Jalingo, into a world-class institution of the 21st century.
The appointment, as observed by WorldClass247News, makes the Emir of Gombe the first Chancellor of the university since its establishment.
