The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old suspected armed robber, Zephaniah Alfred, in Zangun, Numan Local Government Area, in what the authorities described as another major breakthrough in the fight against violent crime in the state.
The arrest followed a complaint by one Ibrahim Maikano, who reported that the suspect had threatened to kill him. Acting on the report, operatives from the Numan Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), swiftly moved in and apprehended Alfred, who had been on the police wanted list for a string of armed robbery incidents along the Numan-Gombe Road and its environs.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of several items believed to be linked to criminal activity. These include, one locally made pistol. two live AK-47 rounds, one live pistol round.
Others items announced to have been recovered are, one live cartridge a pair of military camouflage trousers, four military camouflage caps, two military camouflage T-shirts, and one black torchlight
The police said all recovered items are being treated as exhibits as investigations continue.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, said the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to working closely with the 23 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Yola to dismantle criminal gangs and ensure public safety.
The suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
