The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has given the Edo State government and the federal government a 14-day deadline to bring to justice those responsible for the killing of Northern hunters in Uromi, Edo State.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Professor Abubakar Jika Jiddere, NEF expressed deep shock and sadness over the incident, warning that the North has endured similar attacks in the past and would no longer tolerate such violence.
Describing the killings as “barbaric” and “unacceptable,” the forum demanded the immediate recovery and dignified burial of the victims in accordance with their religious customs.
NEF also called for the swift arrest and public prosecution of those responsible, ensuring full transparency and accountability.
Additionally, the group urged the government to compensate the victims’ families in line with their religious beliefs and issue an official apology from the Edo State Government, along with a commitment to preventing future occurrences.
NEF warned that failure to meet these demands within the stipulated time could push the North to take necessary measures to seek justice.
The forum also called on the federal government to intervene to ensure justice and preserve national unity. Meanwhile, it urged the victims’ families and the Northern community to remain calm, assuring them that the matter would be pursued responsibly with the relevant authorities.
