In a concerted effort to curb the growing menace of drug abuse and its impact on road safety, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) have pledged to strengthen their collaboration.
During an official visit to LASTMA Headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos, the NDLEA’s Assistant Commander General of Narcotics, Archie-Abia Ibinabo, emphasized the need for a unified approach to addressing drug-related issues, particularly among motorists.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to working closely with the NDLEA to combat the increasing use of illicit substances, especially among young people.
He highlighted the direct link between drug abuse and reckless driving, which has significantly contributed to road accidents and fatalities.
Bakare-Oki also shed light on the sophisticated methods drug traffickers use to move narcotics, noting that illicit substances are often concealed in unconventional vehicles such as dispatch motorcycles and ambulances.
He stressed that a stronger crackdown on drug abuse would not only enhance road safety but also help address broader societal challenges.
In response, Ibinabo reiterated that the NDLEA’s visit was part of its ongoing awareness and sensitization efforts, aimed at curbing drug abuse and its far-reaching consequences.
The renewed partnership between NDLEA and LASTMA, WorldClass247News, gathered signals a proactive approach to ensuring safer roads and a more secure environment for Lagos residents.
