The Plateau State Ministry of Education has issued a warning to primary and secondary schools over an alleged plan by the Black Axe Confraternity, also known as “Aye,” to recruit schoolchildren under the guise of charitable outreach.
According to an internal communication signed by the Deputy Director of Public-Private Partnership, Lafa Longs Lamvong, on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner, intelligence reports indicate that the group intends to carry out a nationwide recruitment campaign, including in Plateau state.
The memo alleges that members of the confraternity plan to visit schools posing as representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), where they would donate educational materials and encourage students and pupils to form and join clubs believed to be linked to the group.
The ministry further stated that the alleged recruitment drive is intended to coincide with the group’s Founder’s Day, scheduled for July 7, 2026, during which members are also expected to elect new leaders across the country.
In response to the reported threat, the Ministry of Education directed school principals and administrators to exercise heightened vigilance. Schools were advised not to admit or engage with visitors without proper consultation and to avoid collaborating with any organization that has not received prior approval from the ministry.
The circular concluded by conveying the regards of the Honourable Commissioner and urged strict compliance with the directive to safeguard students.
