The Yobe state Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has directed the immediate suspension of all activities by Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in public primary and secondary schools across the state.
The directive, dated July 2, 2026, was conveyed in a circular signed by the Director of Schools Management, Idriss Mohammed Fune, on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education. It was addressed to all head teachers and principals of public primary and secondary schools in Yobe State.
According to the circular, the decision followed reports of attempts by “undesirable elements” to infiltrate schools nationwide under various guises.
The ministry said the measure was aimed at safeguarding schools and directed school administrators to strictly enforce the suspension until further notice.
The circular also urged head teachers and principals to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or activities within or around school premises to the nearest security agency for immediate response.
The ministry did not indicate how long the suspension would remain in force or whether any exemptions would be granted for humanitarian or educational programmes run by NGOs.
The directive was signed by Idriss Mohammed Fune, Director of Schools Management, for the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education.
