Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have repelled an attempted terrorist infiltration of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Kasuwan Daji in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing an unspecified number of attackers and rescuing nine abducted civilians.
According to a statement issued on weekend by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the attack occurred at about 1:40 a.m. when armed terrorists attempted to breach the military facility under the cover of darkness.
The Army said troops detected the movement of the attackers early and responded with coordinated firepower, forcing the terrorists to retreat.
Military reinforcements were subsequently deployed, and troops launched a pursuit of the fleeing attackers, who had reportedly abducted an unspecified number of residents from nearby communities during the assault. The operation led to the rescue of nine abducted civilians.
The military, however, confirmed that one Army officer and one police officer were killed during the exchange of fire. Two soldiers also sustained gunshot wounds and were airlifted for advanced medical treatment. The Army said both injured personnel are in stable condition.
Troops have since secured the area and are conducting follow-up operations to determine the full extent of the terrorists’ casualties while maintaining security in the affected communities.
The Army described the failed attack as another setback for terrorist groups operating in the North West, attributing the outcome to sustained military pressure and the combat readiness of deployed troops.
The military also dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that six security personnel were killed in the attack, maintaining that the confirmed casualties were one Army officer and one police officer.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to continuing offensive operations aimed at protecting communities and dismantling terrorist networks across the North West.
