The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the temporary suspension of the enforcement of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 1991. The decision comes ahead of a Motion on Notice scheduled for hearing on October 16, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State.
Though there is no formal court order halting the enforcement, Egbetokun stated that the move was made in the public interest and as a mark of respect to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). He made this known during a courtesy visit by an NBA delegation to the Force Headquarters in Abuja. The team was led by NBA President, Afam Josiah Osigwe (SAN).
In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the visit provided an opportunity for open discussions on the tinted glass regulation and broader legal issues affecting law enforcement. The IGP emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Police and the NBA in promoting the rule of law and restoring public confidence.
As part of this renewed partnership, a joint Police–NBA committee has been inaugurated to facilitate better coordination and engagement between both bodies.
Motorists have been advised to use this suspension window to regularize their vehicle documentation and ensure full compliance with road regulations.
Reiterating the Police Force’s dedication to justice and accountability, IGP Egbetokun assured the public that all laws will continue to be enforced fairly, transparently, and with utmost respect for citizens’ rights.
