In a strategic move to enhance intelligence-led policing and combat violent crimes across the country, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved the deployment of cutting-edge technological tools and applications to the Nigeria Police Force Technical Intelligence Unit (NPF-TIU).
The initiative is aimed at improving the Force’s capacity to detect and prevent crimes, as well as ensure the prompt apprehension of criminal elements.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP has also ordered the commencement of intensive training programmes for TIU personnel.
The training is tailored to meet global intelligence standards and will enable officers to effectively operate the newly deployed equipment and adapt to the rapidly evolving nature of crime.
The IGP emphasized that the ongoing reforms are driven by the changing dynamics of criminal activity both globally and domestically, which necessitate a shift towards technology-based, intelligence-driven policing methods.
Recent achievements by the Force, such as the dismantling of a notorious arms trafficking network operating across Benue, Taraba, Adamawa, and Plateau States, underscore the impact of the renewed focus on intelligence operations.
Dr. Egbetokun reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to proactive crime prevention and assured Nigerians of the Force’s readiness to respond decisively to emerging security threats across the country.
