Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has strongly refuted claims made by the former Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, dismissing them as baseless and politically motivated.
In a statement released on Saturday, Governor Fubara reacted to Dr. Nwaeke’s assertions during a press briefing aired on Channels Television on March 28, 2025.
The governor described the allegations as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and sow discord in the state.
Dr. Nwaeke had alleged that he was privy to Governor Fubara’s supposed discussions and plans to support Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed’s rumored 2027 presidential ambition. However, Governor Fubara dismissed the claim as “laughable,” stating that a serving Head of Service would not be involved in such high-level political meetings. He further clarified that no secret meetings took place between him, Governor Mohammed, or any militant groups.
“The whole world witnessed when the Bauchi State Governor, as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, visited Rivers State. There was nothing secret about it,” Governor Fubara stated.
The governor also denied allegations that he encouraged attacks on oil pipelines and other national assets in the state, reaffirming his commitment to peace and security. He emphasized that he has consistently advocated for stability, even in the face of provocations.
Governor Fubara accused Dr. Nwaeke of being compromised, suggesting that his statements were influenced by external forces aiming to discredit his administration.
“I urge all well-meaning Nigerians and the good people of Rivers State to disregard these falsehoods. They are desperate attempts to undermine the peace process initiated by Mr. President,” he concluded.
The statement, as noticed by WorldClass247News, comes amid growing political tensions in Rivers State, with Governor Fubara’s administration facing opposition from various quarters.
