Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced an increase in the monthly state allowance for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the state, raising it from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000.
The new allowance takes effect from August 1, 2025. Eno disclosed this on Friday during the second day of the State Delivery Meeting held at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Uyo.
He explained that the increment is intended to supplement the Federal Government’s ₦77,000 monthly allowance for corps members and help them better cope with their living expenses.
“Over 10,000 corps members are posted to Akwa Ibom annually. We must continue to encourage and support them,” the governor stated.
The increase comes shortly after Governor Eno approved the reconstruction of the NYSC Orientation Camp at Ikot Itie Idung in Nsit Atai, as part of broader efforts to improve the welfare and safety of corps members in the state.
Since its establishment in 1973, the NYSC scheme has deployed Nigerian graduates under 30 to states outside their regions of origin for a year of national service, aimed at fostering unity, national integration, and community development.
Akwa Ibom State remains a popular posting for corps members, noted for its reputation as one of the safest and most welcoming destinations.
Corps members have continued to contribute significantly to the state’s sectors including education, healthcare, agriculture, and rural development.
Governor Eno’s latest move, WorldClass247News, learnt underscores his administration’s focus on youth empowerment, welfare, and inclusive governance.
