Gombe State has advanced its efforts toward energy sector reform with the commencement of a public hearing on the Gombe State Electricity Bill 2024.
The hearing, organized by the House Committee on Energy and Mineral Resources, took place today at the Conference Hall of the Gombe State House of Assembly Complex.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, representing the state government, provided an overview of the bill’s provisions.
The proposed legislation, as observed by WorldClass247News, includes, the establishment of the Gombe State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Others are, the creation of the Gombe State Electricity Market, the formation of the Gombe State Electricity Council, and the establishment of the Gombe State Electricity Power Company (GOSEPCO).
At the time of this report, the bill had already passed its first and second readings and was referred to an ad-hoc committee on energy. It is now at the public hearing stage, allowing stakeholders to provide input before its final passage.
The hearing attracted key stakeholders, including representatives from relevant ministries, electricity agencies such as JED, TCN, and MBA, as well as local government chairmen, non-governmental organizations, and industry experts.
