Security operatives under the Edo state Special Security Squad, codenamed “Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultists,” have arrested four suspected cultists during an early morning raid at Egbaen Community in Ovia North East local government council of Edo state.

The operation, which involved personnel from the squad and other sister security agencies, was carried out at about 6am following intelligence reports on the activities of suspected cult members in the area.

The Principal Security Officer (PSO), Saturday Okoh, led the operation that resulted in the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of several weapons allegedly linked to cult-related activities.

Items recovered from the hideout included four locally made pistols, a cut-to-size gun, one Beretta pistol, and a machete. Although the suspects denied ownership of the weapons, they reportedly confessed to being members of the Aiye Confraternity.

Speaking with journalists, the Coordinator of the squad, Noah Idemudia, commended members of the public for providing useful information that has contributed to the successes recorded by the security outfit.

He urged residents to continue sharing credible intelligence with security agencies, noting that such information remains vital in preventing criminal activities and maintaining peace across the state.

“In the early hours of Sunday, we received an intelligence report that some members of the Black Axe group wanted to carry out an initiation in Egbaen Community, which could lead to other criminal activities and a breakdown of law and order.

“We responded immediately, moved into the community, and the operation was successful as we were able to arrest four suspects and recover dangerous weapons.

“We appreciate the general public and encourage them to continue providing useful information, as it has greatly assisted the squad in recording several successes. We will continue to do our best to ensure Edo State remains safe for all citizens,” Idemudia said.
