Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has condemned the recent wave of violence that claimed the lives of 22 people in Ovia-South West local government council and two farmers in Okpekpe, Etsako East local government council
The attacks, reportedly carried out by militants, targeted seven farming communities in Ovia-South West, leaving several others injured and causing massive destruction to properties and farmland worth millions of naira.
Additionally, two farmers, Batemue Philip Ebo and Christopher Bello, were allegedly killed by suspected herdsmen in Okpekpe.
Governor Okpebholo, in a statement , expressed his outrage over the incidents, declaring that violence and lawlessness would not be tolerated in Edo State.
“We will not tolerate any form of violence or lawlessness in Edo State,” he stated. “We will work tirelessly to ensure that those responsible for these heinous acts are brought to justice, and we will do everything in our power to prevent such incidents from happening again.”
In response to the crisis, the governor has ordered the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to the affected areas.
He also assured affected communities of the government’s support and pledged to collaborate with security agencies, traditional rulers, and community leaders to restore peace.
Governor Okpebholo urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security operatives as efforts are being intensified to bring the situation under control.
“We urge everyone to remain calm and to go about their normal business. We are doing everything possible to ensure that the situation is brought under control,” he reassured.
