The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) and the Coalition of National Civil Society Organisations (CNCSOs) have applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its transparency and commitment to due process in electoral matters.
In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, CNPP Deputy National Publicity Secretary James Ezema and CNCSOs National Secretary Alhaji Ali Abacha commended INEC’s decision to reject a petition seeking the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District.
The organizations described the rejection as a sign of INEC’s growing accountability and dedication to democratic principles.
“INEC’s decision to reject the procedurally defective petition is a strong indication of its commitment to upholding democratic principles and ensuring the credibility of the electoral process,” the statement read.
The coalition urged INEC to maintain its neutrality and integrity by making decisions strictly in line with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, and its regulations.
“For democracy to thrive beyond the 2027 general elections, INEC must remain steadfast in discharging its duties without fear or favor,” they emphasized.
The groups also highlighted the importance of protecting citizens’ rights in the democratic process and called on political parties, civil society organizations, and the media to support INEC’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral system.
“We stand united in defending democracy and ensuring that the will of the people prevails,” the statement concluded.
