The Taraba State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty by Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, psc, as the 32nd Commissioner of Police in the state.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, James Lashen Saminu, Isokpan formally took over the reins of leadership on Tuesday, August 6, 2025.
A native of Edo State, Isokpan brings over three decades of experience in policing, having joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). She holds a BA (Ed) in English from the former Bendel State University, now Delta State University, Abraka.
Throughout her distinguished career, Isokpan has served in various commands and departments across Nigeria. Her early postings include Bauchi and Plateau States, where she rose through the ranks as Divisional Crime Officer and Divisional Police Officer in several divisions.
She later served in Edo, Kebbi, Rivers, and Imo States, holding key leadership positions, including Area Commander and Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration.
At the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police, she was posted to Zone 13 in Dunukofia, Anambra State, and later to Zone 5, Benin City. In August 2024, she was promoted to Commissioner of Police and served as CP Administration at the Force Intelligence Department (FID), Abuja, and most recently as CP of Mounted Troops, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters.
Notably, Isokpan was also the first female Commissioner of Police in Edo State.
A seasoned officer with a strong background in law enforcement, she has attended numerous professional courses and trainings both locally and internationally.
These include the Strategic and Leadership Command Course at the National Institute of Police Studies, Internal Security Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, and the Irregular Migration Course in Ankara, Turkey. She is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and the International Association of Women Police (IAWP).
In her new role, Isokpan has pledged to prioritize public safety, crime prevention, and community partnership. She reaffirmed her commitment to upholding the rule of law and working in synergy with other security agencies and stakeholders to ensure peace and stability in Taraba State.
