Heavy fighting has broken out in Lony De Yual, Baliet County, as South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) engage in intense clashes with the White Army.
The confrontation erupted just moments ago, according to reports from SSPDF ground forces.
The violence stems from the White Army’s opposition to the recent deployment of SSPDF troops to Nasir County.
The group claims that the government’s military presence in the region is a deliberate attempt to destabilize the area.
This latest escalation adds to the growing tensions in Upper Nile State, which has seen a series of violent confrontations in recent weeks.
Earlier this month, clashes in Nasir County left multiple casualties, including four SSPDF soldiers dead and three others injured.
Despite the SSPDF’s insistence that its troop movements are routine and not part of a disarmament effort, local communities remain wary.
SSPDF spokesperson Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang stated that the recent deployments were administrative measures aimed at resolving disputes between soldiers and the local population.
However, fears of further instability persist. As the fighting in Lony De Yual continues, authorities have yet to release official casualty figures.
Humanitarian organizations are on high alert, preparing for potential civilian displacement and emergency aid efforts.
