The Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspected hard drug retailer in Effurun, Uvwie local government council of the state, recovering large quantities of illicit drugs and a locally made firearm.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Edafe Bright, disclosed this in a statement, saying the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities and the circulation of illicit drugs in the state.
According to the statement, two masked suspects, armed with a locally made shotgun, allegedly broke into the residence of a 48-year-old man in Effurun.
The victim reportedly confronted one of the suspects carrying the firearm and struggled with him. During the confrontation, the firearm broke, forcing the suspects to flee the scene and abandon the weapon.
Following a report lodged at the Ekpan Police Division, operatives were immediately deployed to the area, where they recovered the damaged locally made firearm.
The victim, who sustained injuries while attempting to disarm the suspect, was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects, while investigations into the incident continue.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Samuel Erale, commended the 48-year-old victim for his courage in confronting the suspected criminals.
Eralе assured the victim and residents of the state that the police would intensify efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects, stressing that they would be brought to justice.
