Osun State governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has accused former governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, of orchestrating a plan to create chaos and anarchy in the state.
At a press conference in Osogbo on Sunday, governor Adeleke alleged that Oyetola, in collaboration with security officials, was planning to forcibly reinstate local government chairmen who had been removed by a court ruling. According to Adeleke, this plan is a violation of due process and a direct threat to the stability of Osun State.
The governor named the Osun State Commissioner of Police, the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) as active participants in the alleged plot.
He claimed they had been instructed to enforce a court decision that does not contain a consequential order for reinstatement.
Adeleke emphasized that the sacked council chairmen and councilors were removed before his tenure began, based on two separate rulings by the Federal High Court in Osogbo.
While an appeal against one of the rulings was partially successful, the governor pointed out that the Court of Appeal did not order their reinstatement. Additionally, he noted that another court judgment against the officials remains in effect.
“The only legal recourse available to the affected parties is to appeal to the Supreme Court,” Adeleke stated. He urged legal experts and the Nigerian Bar Association to review the judgments and verify his claims.
The governor warned that Oyetola’s actions, allegedly fueled by his political influence as President Bola Tinubu’s nephew, could lead to a breakdown of law and order in the state. He called on President Tinubu to intervene by instructing security agencies not to obey what he described as an “illegal directive.”
“I call on Mr. President, the National Security Adviser, and the Attorney General of the Federation to verify the facts. The Nigerian public should hold Mr. Gboyega Oyetola and the Osun State security chiefs responsible for any breakdown of law and order,” Adeleke said.
Reaffirming his commitment to peace and the rule of law, Adeleke stated that Osun State would not accept the imposition of illegality and vowed that any changes in local government administration would only occur through lawful judicial pronouncements or democratic processes.
The allegations, as noticed by WorldClass247News, come amid ongoing political tensions in Osun State, with both the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) locked in a legal battle over the legitimacy of the 2022 local government elections.
