The Adamawa State Police Command has foiled an alleged attempt to abduct a six-year-old girl in Mayo Belwa Local Government Area of the state, with an 18-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident.

The incident, which occurred on August 18, 2026, has renewed concerns over the safety of children and the need for heightened vigilance among parents, guardians and communities.

According to the police, operatives attached to the Mayo Belwa Divisional Headquarters received credible information about an alleged attempt to forcefully take away the child.

The suspect, identified as Abdullahi Sa’adu, 18, of Anguwan Eti Salat, Mayo Belwa, was allegedly attempting to abduct six-year-old Nora Luka of Anguwan Tsakuwa, also in Mayo Belwa.

Acting on the information, a police patrol team was immediately deployed and intercepted Sa’adu before he could allegedly carry out the abduction.

The girl was rescued unhurt and handed over to her parents.

The swift intervention, according to the Command, was aided by the timely flow of information and the response of security personnel and members of the community.

The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, commended the patrol team and members of the community for their prompt response and professionalism.

The Commissioner also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable members of society, while urging residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information on suspicious activities.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the Command said investigation into the incident was ongoing.

The police added that the suspect would be arraigned before a court upon completion of the investigation.

The incident has also highlighted the importance of community vigilance, particularly around children, as parents and guardians were urged not to ignore unusual movements or approaches involving their wards.

The Command advised members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities involving children to the nearest police station.

Residents can also contact the Adamawa State Police Command on 08089671313 to report security concerns.

While the six-year-old girl has been reunited with her family unharmed, the arrest has opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged attempted abduction and the motive of the suspect.
