The Delta State Police Command has intercepted 1,520 packets of suspected illicit drugs and arrested a suspected armed robber and cultist in separate intelligence-led operations across the state.
The operations, carried out under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, targeted drug trafficking networks and violent crime in parts of Delta State.
Police operatives attached to the Eagle Net Special Squad intercepted a white J5 bus along the Asaba–Agbor Expressway near Northwest Filling Station on February 13 at about 10:30 p.m.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, said a search of the vehicle uncovered 1,520 packets of Tramadol and Swinol tablets concealed beneath company machines, according to police authorities.
The driver, identified as Ebuka Dominion, 30, from Aguta Local Government Area of Anambra State, and the motor boy, Emmanuel Terdule, 30, from Katsina-Ala LGA of Benue State, were arrested at the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the drugs were intended for distribution. Acting on information obtained during interrogation, operatives later arrested Peter Etim Akpan, 47, from Nibiaya Uruan LGA of Akwa Ibom State, who is alleged to be the owner of the consignment.
Police said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspected drug syndicate.
In a separate operation on February 22 at about 3:20 p.m., operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team arrested a 23-year-old suspect, Collins Darlington, in the Otor Uweku area of Ughelli town.
The arrest followed credible intelligence linking the suspect to a series of robberies within the Warri metropolis.
During interrogation, Darlington allegedly led officers to a bush in the Jedo area of Warri, where a locally made gun buried in the ground was recovered.
Police said the suspect confessed to being a member of the Aye Confraternity and admitted involvement in several door-to-door robbery incidents in Warri. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.
Commissioner Adesola reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and safeguarding lives and property. He urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to support ongoing efforts to combat crime across the state.
