The Plateau State House of Assembly has formally presented its newly elected Speaker, Daniel Nanlong, to governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.
A delegation of 24 lawmakers, led by Deputy Speaker, Madaki Isa Ajiji, visited the governor at his residence to introduce the new Speaker following the voluntary resignation of Gabriel Dewan.
Nanlong emerged unanimously in a peaceful election, underscoring what the lawmakers described as their commitment to stability and progress in Plateau.
Addressing the delegation, governor Mutfwang praised the Assembly for conducting a seamless transition and demonstrating statesmanship.
“Today is a day of joy for the people of Plateau State,” Mutfwang said. “I sincerely thank Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan for his selfless service and leadership over the past year. He has proven himself a true son of Plateau and a man who understands that power ultimately belongs to God.”
The governor commended the legislators as a body of experienced individuals capable of steering the affairs of the House with integrity. He congratulated Nanlong on his emergence and urged him to promote inclusivity, fairness, and mutual respect.
“You have all it takes to lead,” Mutfwang said. “But I urge you to carry everyone along. Every member has the capacity to lead, so ensure inclusivity and fairness as you discharge your responsibilities.”
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to collaboration with the legislative arm, the Governor stressed that only a united front could deliver meaningful dividends of democracy to Plateau residents.
In his remarks, Nanlong expressed gratitude to the Governor for fostering an environment where lawmakers can operate freely. He pledged to lead the Assembly with humility, fairness, and a focus on collective progress.
“I will provide a leadership built on compassion, equity, and collective progress,” Nanlong said. “We shall run an inclusive House where every member’s voice matters, and we will always seek counsel where necessary, knowing that no one has a monopoly on wisdom.”
He assured that under his leadership, the Assembly would remain focused on peace, unity, and the development of Plateau State.
