The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC), Nigeria, has demanded immediate action from the Federal Government, Plateau State authorities, and security agencies following the gruesome killing of Muslim passengers ambushed in Mangun village, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
In a statement released on Monday, MPAC’s Executive Chairman, Disu Kamor, condemned the attack as “horrific and senseless,” disclosing that a bus transporting 28 Muslim passengers mainly of Hausa ethnic background was ambushed by suspected local youths.
According to MPAC, eight people were killed in the incident, six others were injured, and four remain missing. One of the injured victims is reportedly in critical condition.
The organization described the attack as a gross violation of the victims’ fundamental rights and pointed to what it called a troubling rise in ethnic profiling and targeted violence against Muslims in various parts of Nigeria. It warned that such religiously motivated violence threatens the country’s peace and cohesion.
“This tragic and inhumane attack must not be tolerated or normalized,” the statement read. “The government’s failure to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians, regardless of faith or ethnicity, is unacceptable.”
MPAC urged authorities to ensure the injured receive immediate medical attention and to intensify search efforts for the missing passengers. The group also called on the media to report the incident with fairness and objectivity, cautioning that underreporting such attacks only emboldens perpetrators and suppresses victims’ voices.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, MPAC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting justice, peaceful coexistence, and mutual respect among all Nigerians.
