Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has inaugurated three key boards in the health sector, signaling a comprehensive overhaul of healthcare service delivery across the state.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Maiduguri.
The newly established boards include the Borno State Hospital Management Board, the Borno State Primary Healthcare Development Board, and the Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital Management Board.
Governor Zulum charged the boards with spearheading reforms to address critical challenges in the state’s healthcare system, such as inadequate facilities, staff shortages, and the lack of essential medical supplies. He emphasized the need for a thorough assessment of the issues affecting healthcare delivery.
“We are currently witnessing pressure on our secondary health facilities because primary healthcare is weak. I want you to take all hospitals on a case-by-case basis and enumerate all problems in terms of staffing, equipment, and medical supplies so that we can address the issues affecting our health facilities holistically,” Zulum stated.
In addition to the health boards, the governor also inaugurated the Borno State Local Government Service Commission Board, which comprises a chairman and four permanent commissioners.
The Chairman of the Kashim Ibrahim Teaching Hospital Management Board, Professor Ahmed Ahidjo, and the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Alhaji Modu Alhaji Musa, expressed their gratitude to the governor for the appointments and pledged to justify the trust placed in them by delivering on their mandates.
The reforms are expected to significantly strengthen healthcare delivery and improve service access for residents of Borno State.
