Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the takeover and conversion of the newly reconstructed General Hospital Kumo into a Federal Medical Centre (FMC).
Describing the decision as a game-changer for healthcare in Gombe and the entire Northeast, Governor Yahaya emphasized that the federal takeover would significantly enhance medical services and expand training opportunities for medical students from the Federal University of Kashere and Lincoln University, Kumo.
“This development will no doubt enhance the delivery of quality healthcare services to our people in Gombe State and neighboring states,” the governor stated.
Adding that, “With this 200-bed ultramodern facility now set to operate as a Federal Medical Centre, we are confident it will provide comprehensive medical care and produce highly trained healthcare professionals to strengthen our workforce.”
Governor Yahaya reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to healthcare infrastructure development, highlighting major projects, including the remodeling of Gombe Specialist Hospital, upgrades to general hospitals in Bajoga and Kaltungo, the construction of a new general hospital in Kumo, and the revitalization of 114 Primary Healthcare Centres across the state.
The Federal Government, in announcing President Tinubu’s approval, acknowledged Governor Yahaya’s dedication to healthcare reforms, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes nationwide improvements in medical services.
As part of his broader vision for healthcare accessibility, Governor Yahaya recently unveiled plans to construct an additional 114 Primary Healthcare Centres—one in each ward of the state—to ensure that all residents, regardless of location, have access to essential medical services.
He also extended his appreciation to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate, for his support in facilitating the hospital’s upgrade.
The conversion of Kumo General Hospital into an FMC, as observed by WorldClass247News,marks a significant milestone in Gombe State’s healthcare transformation.
With increased federal support, the facility is expected to provide world-class medical services and train the next generation of healthcare professionals, further strengthening the state’s health sector.
